Kevin Beckner crushes Margaret Iuculano in Hillsborough County Commission District 6 race

"I give her an 'A' for effort and an 'F' for integrity and honesty," Beckner said caustically.

He went on to say that "it's unfortunate that she can't stay focused on the issues, and she actually has to make things up about my past record and what I've done, and that's really unfortunate that you can't have an honest debate. She's got these community activists that are making things up and suggesting that I'm under federal indictment and all sorts of things they've made up from the Children's Board to what I've done with PIP. It's really unfortunate that you can't really focus on the issues and you've got to start making things up about somebody's record."

Those "community activists" include a Tampa man by the name of David Campo, who created his own blog detailing what he said were violations of the law Beckner has committed that the "media refuses to tell you."

So, what does Kevin Beckner want to do for his next four years in office?

"I'm going to continue to focus on things for our at-risk youth, and we're looking at a jobs program moving forward. I also want to make sure we don't return to the era where we don't unnecessarily build up government. I want to focus on extra tax revenue resources to invest more in neighborhoods, infrastructure like transportation, and invest more in our community."

That all sounds pretty sensible for a so-called "San Francisco liberal." In fact, Beckner received lots of support from the development industry, money that traditionally goes to Republicans in Hillsborough County. But once Steve Cona dropped out of the race for the GOP nomination, Beckner was basically popping the champagne bottles.

In the Countywide District 6 race in Hillsborough County, Democratic incumbent Kevin Beckner has defeated his Republican challenger Margaret Iuculano in a bitter race, 58-42 percent (that's with 321 of 347 precincts in).

Iuculano was an extremely conservative candidate who set the tone of the race a year ago when she slammed Beckner with what stands as the ultimate negative epithet in the Tampa Bay area, labeling him a "San Francisco Democrat."

Before the votes were all in, CL asked Beckner about his thoughts on Iuculano.

"I give her an I give her an 'A' for effort and an 'F' for integrity and honesty," Beckner said caustically.
