If you prefer your plays to be spoken, not sung, Stageworks and Gorilla Theatre co-produce the Bay area premiere of Stop Kiss. Set in present-day New York City, Stop Kiss is about two women — a savvy New Yorker and a recent transplant from the Midwest — who meet, become friends and develop a close relationship that eventually develops into a mutual attraction. Time skitters back and forth in this play by Diane Son, seesawing between the build-up to, and aftermath of, a not-so-simple kiss, and touching upon themes ranging from identity and vulnerability to the transformative power of love. Jan. 5-22: 7 p.m. Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 3 p.m. Sun. Gorilla Theatre, 4419 N. Hubert Ave., Suite D, Tampa, $22 general/$16 seniors ($11 student rush tickets available 30 minutes before the show), 813-879-2914, www.stageworkstheater.com or www.gorilla-theatre.com.
