About 95,000 households in South-Central Hillsborough County are now under a precautionary water boil.
Hillsborough County issued the notice Tuesday afternoon, stating that a power issue
caused water pressure in the service area south of SR 60 and east of I-75 to fall below 20 psi.
"The Hillsborough County Health Department requires a precautionary boil water notice after pressure in the lines drops below a certain level," said a statement from the county. "This notice means customers are advised, as a precautionary measure, to boil all tap water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes."
Officials say a rolling boil of one minute is sufficient for consumption (after the water cools down), and to allow the water to run until it is clear before washing clothes. Also, any ice in an automatic ice-maker should be tossed out.
Hillsborough County did not say when the boil notice is expected to be lifted, but a new notice will be released at that time.
