Link TV to send citizen reporter to cover RNC in Tampa

The winner will also cover the Democrats in Charlotte the following week.

United Republic CEO Josh Silver said this about the citizen reporter competition:

“The public is tired of talking heads and uber-rich donors dictating what’s best for this country. Real Americans know what we really need to do to solve the biggest problems facing us — and that’s get money out of politics. We’re going to find a citizen reporter who can tell it like it is and cut through the chatter to show just how damaging unlimited and secretive campaign contributions, the culture of constant fundraising, and corporate lobbying are to our democracy. If citizens don’t raise these concerns to the two main parties, then no one will.”

The press release says that Internews Interactive will provide training and production expertise, and Link TV will provide support for a professional news team to work with the selected citizen journalist, whose reporting will become a part of the national network’s 2012 election coverage.

The search will continue through July 25 with the final announcement made August 3. United Republic and its partner, Internews Interactive, will cover all expenses.

Interested applicants can submit their videos at unitedrepublic.org/2012conventions by July 25. You can also see some of the videos already submitted by going to that site.

United Republic and Link TV announced this week that they are conducting a search for a citizen reporter to cover money in politics at the 2012 Republican and Democratic national conventions in Tampa and Charlotte on August 27 and September 4.

Link TV is available in the Tampa Bay area on the Dish Network and Direct TV. It's schedule includes lots of progressive politics, including broadcasting live every morning Pacifica Radio's Democracy Now! program with Amy Goodman.

According to a press release, the selected citizen reporter will be a volunteer who will report on the conventions through the lens of money in politics.
