BLIND BUDDY MOODY

(MySpace.com/blindbuddymoody)

The finest roots performer to emerge on the local scene this year, Blind Buddy Moody is a gruff, engaging singer, gifted finger-picking guitarist and hard-hitting blues harp player. In decades past, Moody opened for the likes of George Jones and Waylon Jennings. But a flea market is where Mojo Gurus frontman Kevin Steele found Moody playing. This disc documents a moving performance he delivered at Dave Aqua's Lounge a couple months back. The set list is rife with impassioned, distinctive readings of numbers by honky tonk heroes such as Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jimmie Rodgers. Moody puts his stamp on anything he sings, be it a brazen stomp or a plaintive ballad.
