Lord of the strings

Classical musicWednesday, Feb. 21

If you couldn't get enough of the movies, The Florida Orchestra has added The Lord of the Rings Symphony to its lineup this season. Composer Howard Shore won two Oscars for his dramatic scores to the hit films, and now you can hear them live in all their medieval glory. Adding to the sound experience is a collection of fantastic illustrations by Alan Lee and John Howe that are projected above the orchestra. Hobbit costumes are not required, but encouraged. 8 p.m. Wed.-Thurs., Feb. 21-22, Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S., St. Petersburg, $25-$55 (children half price), 727-898-2100, mahaffeytheater.com.
