St. Augustine artist Theodore Morris has spent countless hours gathering the latest archaeological and anthropological evidence of Florida's original Native-American inhabitants, who lived here as many as 13,000 years ago and who'd pretty much disappeared from the region by the early 18th century. His research provides the foundation for oil paintings that, realistically and with great detail, chronicle the everyday lives of these early Floridians. Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center presents 37 of Morris' works in Florida's Lost Tribes, an exhibit that kicks off with a day of living history re-enactments, Native flute-playing, and storytelling. The opening celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Oct. 14; the works are on display through Nov. 26, 1800 Weedon Drive N.E., St. Petersburg, free admission, 727-453-6500.
