Tampa City Councilman Luis Viera ran unopposed and will be sworn in for his third term this summer, which is no surprise.

He’s gone hard for his constituents in New Tampa and North Tampa. Viera’s been accessible at every turn and willing to meet with folks on every side of an argument (he even got heat for going face to face with “community patriot” groups).

It’s unclear if Viera wants to continue serving after this third term—and it was disappointing when he blocked a vote on police transparency—but it would be nice to see him walk away from some of his more even-keeled, middle of the road stances and forcefully take a stand when the temperature gets hot in council.
