A manatee mother and calf that had been trapped in a Crystal River canal due to floods caused by Hurricane Michael were rescued by crews on Thursday.

According to a report by Spectrum News 9, the two manatees rode rising waters into the canal and became trapped when the storm receded. Crews were able to move first the calf and then the mother — the latter of which took several people to get onto a gurney for transport — to open water nearby. At last report, both seemed to be doing fine.
