Rick Kriseman is getting busy.
The St. Petersburg mayor-elect made news last week with the announcement that he had selected Dr. Kanika Tomalin, a vice president at Health Management Associates, to be his deputy mayor.
But apparently he was just getting started. He announced an extensive transition team this afternoon that includes many significant players in the city's political, business and activist scenes.
The 44 members of the St. Pete community named to the team include City Council Chair Karl Nurse and outgoing Councilwoman Leslie Curran, as well City Administrator for Public Works Mike Connors and Senior Administrator for City Development Rick Mussett.
Many notable members of the black community are also on the list, such as magazine editor/publisher Gypsy Gallardo, Lou Brown, Askia Muhammed Aquil, Reverend Manuel Sykes, Studio@620's Bob Devin Jones and Wildwood Neighborhood Association President Lisa Wheeler-Brown.
The Chamber's Chris Steinocher is on the team, as are prominent businessman Craig Sher; Rick Smith, who is chief of staff for the Florida Public Services Union and prominently involved with the People's Budget Review; and environmental activist Lorraine Margeson.
A public meeting with all of these transition team members is scheduled for this Wednesday night, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the SPC Downtown Campus, 244 2nd Avenue North, Room 210.
