New World Brewery hosts the third installment in USF's Spotlight on Writing, a six-hour affair of poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction readings for your extended auditory pleasure. The 21 scheduled readers include novelist John Fleming, poets Daniel Pantano and Nicholas Samaras, and 2006 O. Henry Award winner Karen Brown. Attendees also enjoy a photography display and live music. Admission is two canned food items to benefit Tampa Bay Harvest. Just think: A few cans of collard greens buys you a marathon of literary entertainment, and a lot could occur in an afternoon. Beer might spill on someone's leather-elbowed sport coat, turning a friendly literary debate into a highbrow bar fight. Or a slurring-drunk poet might improvise his next magnum opus. Whatever happens, it's all for a good cause. Sun., April 2, noon-6 p.m., 313 Eighth Ave., Ybor City, 813-248-4969.
