The Humane Society of Pinellas is offering to microchip pets on July 31 for only $15. The microchip clinic will be held from 1:00 3:30 pm at the Humane Society of Pinellas (HSP) located at 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater. For information, call (727) 797-7722. You must have proof of rabies vaccine and a current pet license!
Many people believe that microchipping pets will help them be reunited with their pets if the pets get lost or wander off. Unlike collar tags, which can fall off, microchips are permanent.
I think microchipping is a good concept, but I have had difficulty getting the ownership record on Jana's updated when I moved and changed phone numbers. Also, there are several microchipping "systems" or brands, and each one requires a different reader.
For these reasons, if you do plan to microchip your pet, using the system that your regional shelter or humane society uses gives you the best chance of finding your pet if he or she gets lost. Take advantage of the Humane Society clinic to get it done inexpensively. Microchipping will be done on a first-come, first-served basis so get there early!
