There are no scheduled public appearances for Vice President Joe Biden this week — not until Thursday when he'll resurface publicly for his highly anticipated debate against GOP VP nominee Paul Ryan.
Obviously Biden — and the Obama campaign — are leaving nothing to chance, as last week's poor performance by President Obama has raised the stakes considerably for the Democrats to get back the momentum they had been enjoying since their successful convention in Charlotte last month.
That momentum has now shifted to Mitt Romney.
Generally these VP debates are less consequential than the presidential ones, but that theory doesn't hold up this week. The pressure will truly be on the president a week from tomorrow when the second presidential debate takes place in New York — but Biden can stop the bleeding with a solid performance by his number two man.
But there will be two men in the ring, and how will Paul Ryan respond? He won't be underestimated, that's for sure.
Speaking of Romney, what do you think about his pivot as a new centrist-looking candidate? In appearances over the weekend, including Friday night in St. Petersburg, the Republican nominee has started to look less robotic and more human in trying to appeal to the public.
Although we're getting word that one Hillsborough Democrat running for state office may be pulling out of a race (that would be Jose Vasquez in District 58), Gail Gottlieb in District 59 thinks she has a chance in running for the open seat formerly held by Rachel Burgin.
