Mitch Perry Report 4.2.12: Hillsborough conservatives targets Islam - in the classroom

Is Tampa/Hillsborough County about to go through its own version of the "Times Square mosque?" Negative feelings about Islam among some people in the county appear to be the driving force behind some citizens' angst that a local member of the Council on Islamic Relations addressed a Hillsborough high school last year. On Friday afternoon, the Hillsborough County School Board spent a few hours debating whether or not they needed a new policy regarding guest speakers — the board is pretty unified that they don't need such a policy, but the drama will continue for at least one more public hearing.

The Trayvon Martin drama continues as well. On Saturday CL was in St. Petersburg to observe two rallies, where the dominant theme was justice in the case, which for most attendees meant arresting George Zimmerman.

CBS' Face The Nation is now an hour-long program on Sunday mornings. Not that you would know that watching the program in the Tampa Bay area, where instead of watching interviews with Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, we got a half-hour infomercial for Hoover's Extract Carpet Washer (the part we did see had Joe Biden ripping into Mitt Romney, however).
