Happy Good Friday/Passover to one and all, and what's better on this quasi-holiday (but not for the working press!) than to start a baseball season?
The Rays host the big, bad New York Yankees in the first game of the regular season today at 3 p.m. at Tropicana Field. In my time in Tampa Bay, this is the first time I can remember the Rays opening in the daytime, vs. at night, and this is definitely the way to go. By the way, I'm predicting/hoping for a Rays -San Francisco Giants World Series.
Yesterday was a big day in Tampa, as organized opposition by citizens as well as concerns by members of the City Council forced a delay in approving Mayor Bob Buckhorn's rules and regulations for protesters for the Republican National Convention.
Incidentally, the state's inane law preempting cities like Tampa from banning handguns in the so-called Clean Zone is getting national attention, and it ain't good. Buckhorn calls the law absurd, while the NY Times today calls it an "embarrassment."
