Mitch Perry Report 5.3.12 - Time to vote on RNC "Event Zone"

Rick Scott's rebuking of Bob Buckhorn's request to ban guns inside the mayor's "Event Zone" was the dominant story in Tampa yesterday.

The RNC's "Event Zone" will be front and center at the Tampa City Council this morning. The mayor's legal eagles have made considerable changes to the designated part of town where new rules will be in place for the Republican Convention - but will those changes satisfy the majority of the Council? Check our blog later today for an update.

The RNC Host Committee is looking for a few good men and women - a few thousand of them, actually, to volunteer as hosts and greeters at all of those hotels that conventioneers will be staying during the event in late August.

And ever since they rejected a plan for a "tent city" nearly three years ago, the Hillsborough County Commission has done virtually nothing in terms of dealing with the growing problem. Until yesterday, where commissioners approved $2 million to improve one facility for the homeless.
