Mitch Perry Report 8.26.11

Welcome to the weekend, CL and MPR readers.

Not to make a big deal out of this, but we're actually taking today off, theoretically, though we may pop up with post later in the day - our first day off since April 18, which only happened to be the day that the HART board fired its former executive director David Armijo, in a vote we were sorry we couldn't be present for.

That's the thing with covering news - there's always something happening that prevents us from clearing the mind and stepping away from it all.

We can tell that we read the Tampa Tribune's fine story on the RNC Convention, one year out, that we did the same thing last week, and urge you to check it out.

If you haven't seen our story this week, it's on Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe announcing his candidacy to run for Congress.

And we have some posts we'd like to highlight we've written in the last 24 hours, such as the fact that for all his troubles with the economy, the fact is by a strong majority, Americans believe the lion's share of the blame for the economy goes to George W. Bush, for whatever that's worth.

And we checked out the Tampa City Council's deliberations on trying to find a way to not be duped in the future when it comes to giving out fat tax breaks for companies who say if they don't get such breaks they'll take their jobs with them - and then say afterward they really didn't mean it.
