It’s not that Emilia Sargent never gets important roles in local productions — after all, she had a female lead in Jobsite’s Boston Marriage last season, and she was nothing less than brilliant in her one-time appearance as the bereaved father in Gorilla Theatre's mesmerizing An Oak Tree. But when an actress is as talented and attractive as Sargent (and has such a beautiful soprano voice), you can’t help but expect that she’ll turn up in lead roles again and again. But she doesn’t. In recent seasons, audiences have found her in small-to-midsized parts at Gorilla Theatre and Hat Trick Theatre, and more often they haven’t found her on stage at all. Which is puzzling. So artistic directors take note: She’s a hard-working actress in her 30s (trained as an engineer but taking voice lessons since she was 14); she’s skilled and intelligent and looks like a star as much as anyone else in this part of Florida. Please do the math.
