Music: Different Kind of Republican

Tuesday, January 29

A pop band with an intriguing alternative bent manifested through ambient flourishes and surging guitars, OneRepublic blew up on MySpace last year and then gained even greater attention when Timbaland remixed their ballad "Apologize." At deadline, the song was No. 3 on Billboard singles chart. OneRepublic's debut album Dreaming Out Loud came out in November and features both the original and remixed versions of "Apologize," which will likely elicit a predominantly female sing-along in concert. Also on the roster is blue-eyed soul singer (and songwriter) Eric Hutchinson. His grabby tunes vary between earnest and playful, often in the same number. Hutchinson's third and newest album, Sounds Like This, benefited from reviled but widely read celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's ringing endorsement, which pushed the full-length to the top of iTunes bestsellers tally. Tues., Jan. 29, 8 p.m., State Theatre, 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, $16 in advance/$18 day of show, 727-895-3045,
