Athens, Ga. foursome Perpetual Groove has been making jam fans dance for several years with their energetic fusion of groove and trance-laden electronica with heavy-hitting rock ‘n’ roll, which jumps from assertive and distorted to quietly sublime. Plus, frontman Brock Butler’s fluid guitar notes and beseeching vocals bring a refreshing warmth to his already first-rate songwriting. Longtime keyboardist Matt McDonald left the band earlier this year to spend more time with his family; his key-playing replacement, John Hruby, has worked with Ludacris, Ying Yang Twins, Ciara and David Banner. No doubt Hruby’s background will bring some bump and funk to the jams. Thurs., Dec. 4, State Theatre, 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, $17 in advance/$20 day of show.
