We don't mean to get all anal on the good folks over at Public Policy Polling, who had a solid 2010 in predicting some of the big races in last year's elections in Florida.
But we just have to ask the question: How many times does Jeb Bush have to say he's not interested in running in 2012 before pollsters (and other diehards) move on?
Okay, maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves. A new PPP survey of Florida Republicans out on Thursday has Mitt Romney looking better than ever in the Sunshine State, with 27 percent support. Both Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin (not a candidate at this time) tie for second with 17 percent, Herman Cain at 14 percent, Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, Ron Paul at 7 percent, Tim Pawlenty at 4 percent and Jon Huntsman at 2 percent.
However, in what PPP labels a sort of "field of dreams," former Florida Governor Jeb Bush dominates with 27 percent, Romney comes in at 17 percent, Palin is at 14 percent, and another non-candidate, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ties Bachmann with 12%.
It's not surprising that if you ask 377 usual Florida primary voters who their preference would be, Jeb Bush is leading. I'm sure if you put Ronald Reagan in the mix, he'd come out pretty decently as well.
