A new survey taken by St. Pete Polls (and commissioned by blogger Peter Schorsch) shows that the ballot measure that asks St. Petersburg residents to terminate the city's contract with Lens designer Michael Maltzan appears likely to pass next week.
55.6 percent of the 1,051 early or likely voters in the city say they will support ending the Lens (a "yes" vote), whereas just 34 percent say they would vote no, and keep the Lens design in the city's plans.
St.Pete Polls last survey before the election also brings bad news to Kathleen Ford in the mayoral contest. The primary will take the two top finishers into the November 5 general election (unless someone gets 50 percent plus in next week's election), and right now Ford looks like she won't make it.
The survey shows Bill Foster (barely) atop the leader board with 33 percent of the vote, Rick Kriseman right below him at 32 percent, and Ford a distant third at 22 percent.
That could portend trouble for Foster in the general if that scenario plays out, as the question then becomes who do Ford voters go to in November?
As for the Lens vote, this latest poll is consistent with most polling that has been done since Concerned Citizens of St. Petersburg turned in the required number of signatures this past May to qualify to put the measure on the ballot.
