No Shame

Louis C.K. is a comic worthy of driving to Sarasota to see. He's self-deprecating to the point of self-disgust and quite proficient at pointing out all the problems in his life with wildly sarcastic but always very humorous honesty, from his sad excuse for a sex life to the fact that fatherhood doesn't live up to the hype to how fat he's getting and his inability to do anything about it.

The completely maddening antics of his "asshole" 4-year-old daughter are a frequent topic of his anecdotal rants. "The other day, I walk into the kitchen, she's talking to my wife. She says, 'Mama, I saw a doggie today.' And I was like, 'Really, where did you see a doggie?' And she's like 'I'm telling mama, not you.' I'm like, 'Hey, fuck you! I'm just asking to be nice anyway. What, you think I actually give a shit about the dog you saw? Like that was gonna be an awesome story, that you saw a fuckin' dog? Who gives a shit? I've got better stories than you. I have an interesting life, I'm on fuckin' television, I won an Emmy; you don't ask me what fuckin' happened to me today, you little bitch.' ... I didn't say that to her, obviously. But that's the thing; no one ever calls her on her bullshit. That's how she got to be an asshole in the first place."

His writing credits are plentiful and include Emmy-nominated contributions to all the quality late-night talk shows as well as frequent collaborations with longtime SNL writer Robert Smigel on TV Funhouse, a recurring SNL skit featuring cartoons created by Smigel and possibly the only thing funny left on that show. In 1999, he won a "Best Writing in a Comedy Series" Emmy award for the Chris Rock Show, starred in his own short-lived HBO sitcom, Lucky Louie, in 2006, and this year filmed and released his third HBO comedy special, Shameless. You can see him at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre in Sarasota this weekend through Sunday.
