Pinellas Remembers will host its first ever fundraising event in hopes of educating and enlightening its community about the racial justice it stands for.

The fundraising gala offers an evening of unity and remembrance as the organization celebrates its accomplishments and looks forward to what’s in store. The event will be held Sept. 17 from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at the USC Ballroom on the St. Petersburg Campus of the University of South Florida, located at 200 6th Ave. S.

Tickets for Pinellas Remembers’ first annual gala at USF St. Petersburg on Saturday, Sept. 17 start at $10. Pinellas Remembers will highlight guest speaker Eric Deggans, media critic for NPR, former media critic for the Tampa Bay Times and author of “Race-Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide a Nation.”

Pinellas Remembers is an equal justice initiative community remembrance project coalition set out to educate about and commemorate history of racial terror in America, epitomized by lynchings and racial violence.

Last year, the organization helped to honor the life of John Evans, a Black man who was lynched in St. Petersburg in 1914, by unveiling a memorial in his honor on the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. and 2nd Avenue South.
