The sporting gods have aligned on this Monday in America, as Major League Baseball has its true opening day, with President Obama helping to open the Washington Nationals home opener by throwing out the first pitch in D.C. (let's hope it's with a little more authority than his toss at last summer's All-Star game. Then again, b-ball is his game, if you checked out his game of P-O-T-U-S with CBS Sports analyst Clark Kellogg Saturday night).

You've got your Masters Tournament beginning later this week in August, Georgia.  I guess you've read that that Tiger Woods fella will be participating?

But the big event is the culmination of the college basketball season tonight in Indianapolis, where the local upstarts, Butler, plays against perennial powerhouse Duke at 9:21 p.m.

It's been an outstanding tournament, even as I was criticizing it before it began because I still think it's overrated and not nearly as good as the NBA playoffs.  But hey, we can disagree, since that's what makes sports such a fun experience.

But how many folks out there think that this event needs another 32 teams? Because, by all indications, that's coming soon.
