• President Obama (shown here at a previous appearance) sounded in mid-October campaign mode when he spoke in South Florida yesterday

President Obama was in Boca Raton Tuesday afternoon, speaking at Florida Atlantic University and promoting the "Buffett Rule," his proposal that would ensure the wealthiest Americans pay at least 30 percent of their income in federal taxes.

The plan comes from billionaire investor and Obama supporter Warren Buffett. It would come into play for those making at least $1 million annually, and the Senate will vote on the measure next Monday.

In addition to his speech at FAU, Obama held fundraisers in in Palm Beach, Hollywood and Golden Beach. And he will be coming to the Port of Tampa Friday in what is being called a non-campaign event (not open to the public).

Calling it the "defining issue of our time," the president at FAU said that there are two "very different visions of our future and the choice could not be clearer," sounding in mid-October form against Mitt Romney instead of the middle of April. Obama said that government "cannot and should not try to solve every problem we have," but then spoke for the benefits of what a caring and compassionate government can do for the country.
