Remember the excitement that Democrats had two years ago, which led to the historic election of the first black President, as well as and straight election where they gained seats in Congress?

Organizing for America-Florida or OFA is back (organizers say they actually never went away), and on Saturday, July 24, the group will be trying to mobilize voters about the 2010 congressional elections with events in Tampa and St. Petersburg and throughout the Sunshine State.

In Tampa, the group plans to meet at the OFA headquarters in Ybor City at 9:30 a.m, at 1702 N. 14th St.  They'll then journey over to the Ybor Farmer's Market.

In St. Pete, organizers will meet up at the Pinellas Democratic headquarters at 250 1st Ave. N.

On a conference call on Thursday, South Florida Democratic Congressman Ted Deutch, who won the special election race to replace Robert Wexler, gave praise to OFA's Get Out The Vote effort back in April.

"They said it was a referendum on health care," he said of his election, which came right after the House of Representatives voted in support of that historic bill, "and we showed the power of organizing, the power of getting out the vote."
