What is it about the tightrope walk between a failed relationship and a new one that so often makes us step backwards instead of forwards? Is it just the fear of the unknown that makes us retreat to the security of a faulty relationship rather than putting ourselves on the line in order to meet someone new?

I recently ended a relationship with a man for the second time. The first time we broke up, it was for a good reason, at least in my mind. He was not making any real effort to take our relationship to the next level. So, as any smart woman would, I dropped off the personal items he left at my place and went on a good, old-fashion boy binge.
