Our Former Editor

For those with long memories, who recall when the Planet was Creative Loafing, the name Steve Garbarino is loaded with Ybor City images of the paper’s larger-than-life editor in the early 1990s. Back before the Latin quarter was "redeveloped," Garbarino had the media party spot in a second-floor apartment in one of Ybor's older buildings. He did tours of duty with Vanity Fair and the NY Post's Page Six magazine after departing Tampa.

Thanks to a head’s-up from a friend, we found out what he may be up to now, courtesy of Gawker blog. He is rumored (at least according to himself) to have been offered the editorship of BlackBook magainze, NYC’s “glossy arbiter of downtown hip.” I especially love the title “gossipeuse” that Garbarino has acquired.
