County officials say that the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is overcrowded, so they’re tapping into the Star Wars holiday weekend for a May the Fourth adoption special where the price to adopt a “ready-to-go” dog will be just $4.

“Ready-to-go” means the animals can go home with you right then and there; the fee is normally $20.

What’s more is that a Cinco de Mayo special on cats will allow prospective cat moms and dads to bring a “ready-to-go” feline friend home for just $5.

The animals are registered, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed before adoption, and the Pet Resource Center located at 440 N. Falkenburg Rd. in Tampa. is open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m..

Please remember that adopting a pet is a full-time, and rewarding, commitment that has its own set of ups and downs. In short, don’t just adopt a pet because it’s inexpensive; our furry friends need to be treated with care after being taken out of shelters.
