Anti-ICE and pro-Trump protesters fought in downtown Tampa last Monday afternoon.
A couple hundred anti-ICE protesters descended on Tampa City Hall in solidarity with Los Angeles activists being targeted by Trump. The president issued a memorandum yesterday calling L.A. activists protesting ICE raids “violent mobs” and deploying 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines.
Organizers in Tampa would not identify themselves, but a social media post promoting the event listed groups like Occupy Florida, Florida Valkyries, Resistance Support, Voices of Florida, 50501 Florida.
After a smaller group of counter-protesters wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and carrying pro-Trump flags showed up, a shouting match between the two groups led to shoving. The skirmish was broken up by police.
A spokesperson for Tampa Police Department is updating Creative Loafing Tampa Bay on whether or not there were any arrests.
