Pinellas County officials said residents’ options are quickly diminishing for what they can do to get out of harm’s way.

They are imploring anyone still around in an A evacuation zone to get out now and warned that those in B and C zones—all under mandatory evacuation orders since early this week—will see catastrophic, and deadly, storm surge.

They expect bridges off the barrier islands to be closed by dusk and have opened three new, pet-friendly shelters:

  • Fairmount Park Elementary School 575 41st St. S, St. Petersburg
  • New Heights Elementary School 3901 37th St. N, St. Petersburg
  • Palm Harbor Middle School 1800 Tampa Rd., Palm Harbor
Officials said they have capacity for 20,000 people in shelters across the county and have just 8,000 people in them right now.

In all 13 shelters are available in Pinellas County.

Anyone without transportation who did not take advantage of free public transportation over the last few days is encouraged to call a rideshare service.

As previously reported, the state has partnered with Uber to help Floridians get free rides to local shelters. All you have to do to get a free ride is open the Uber app, navigate to the wallet by accessing account settings and adding the promo code “MILTONRELIEF”.

Anyone headed to a shelter is advised to bring their own bedding. See more shelters across Tampa Bay here.
