Summer's just begun, but for some there's no better time to prepare when school starts back up in August.

On weekdays from June 13-Aug. 8, the  Florida Department of Health in
Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) will provide its annual free clinic screenings for children grades K-12 in preparation for the 2022-23 school year.

A press release says the services include
sports and well child physicals, including immunizations, by appointment only. At select locations, vision and hearing screenings and basic dental services  will also be available .

Parents/legal guardians must bring immunization records and be present for the services, which will be held at four locations from 8 a.m-2 p.m.:
  • Boca Ciega High School 824 58th St. S, Gulfport
  • Gibbs High School 850 34th St. S, St. Petersburg
  • Largo High School 410 Missouri Ave., Largo
  • Pinellas Park High School 6305 118th Ave. N
According to the Florida Department of Health, all Florida children entering public or private schools must complete a school entry health examination and have a record of all immunizations for enrollment.

Without insurance, many of these services can have very costly out-of-pocket prices.

According to the Center for Disease Control, most pediatric vaccines cost at least
$20. In the private sector, these costs can be even higher.

Those seeking the same services from Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County should first reach out to nonprofit organizations like the Children's Board Family Resource Centers in Tampa offer guidance on how to receive these services without insurance.

To schedule an appointment for a free clinic screening with DOH-Pinellas, call 727-824-6900.
