Chants of “pink slip Rick” and, “Where are the jobs?” greeted Gov. Rick Scott at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in St. Petersburg where he spoke at the 2011 Florida Society of Newspapers and Florida Press Association Annual Convention. Florida Watch Action planned the protest in response to bills that Scott has signed into law that they say are “job-killing” and “anti-middle class.”

“We want to show [the legislature] that people don’t agree with the policies put in place,” said Kofi Hunt, organizing member of Awake Pinellas, a branch of grassroots Florida organization, Awake the State. They want the legislature to rethink its policies, and “represent the people, not personal agendas.”
