Estuary Meeting

On Tuesday, May 15, 4 p.m., The Tampa Bay Estuary Program's Manatee Awareness Coalition meets to discuss issues pertaining to the Florida manatee, such as improving on-the-water enforcement of environmental and boating regulations and opportunities to establish local manatee protection zones. TBEP has sponsored scientific research into the bay's problems and secured more than $1-million in grants to assist in the repair and restoration of the bay. Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society is holding its signature Relay for Life events at various locations throughout the Tampa Bay area every weekend through May 19. The events are for cancer survivors, their families, church groups and the public, who camp out in the center of the athletic field where each event is located and participate in an all-night walk. Each event starts at 6 p.m. Friday night and ends at noon the following day. Rain Barrel and Water Wise Workshops

On Saturday, May 19, 9:30-noon, the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (IFAS) offers two educational programs on water consumption and conservation. Ed Turanchik at the Tiger Bay Club On Thursday, May 24, noon-1:15 p.m., former Hillsborough County Commissioner Ed Turanchik, president of Florida 2012, speaks to the Tiger Bay Club about his efforts to bring the Olympics to Tampa Bay and faces critical questions about the endeavor.
