Recycle your old holiday lights and get a discount on ENERGY STAR sets

According to Sears' blog:

If every decorative light string purchased in the United States this year were ENERGY STAR qualified, we would:

  • Prevent 1 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to the emissions from about 100,000 cars

  • Save more than 700 million kWh of electricity

  • Save about $80 million in annual energy costs

Get rid of those old strings of holiday lights that have become clutter in your garage and trade them in for some brand new, energy efficient ones. Until November 20th (this Saturday), Sears and Kmart are taking in those old lights in exchange for a coupon toward ENERGY STAR qualified lights for their “Trade-in to Trade-up to ENERGY STAR” program.

The two stores have partnered up with Electronic Recyclers International and will be giving a $4 coupon toward energy saving LED brands for every incandescent light set you bring in. They'll then take your old ones and recycle them.
