Reynolds' Acousti-Rap

MUSIC

It's impossible for me to talk about Dave Matthews without cringing in distaste, my deep-seated prejudice a high school leftover I haven't been able to shake since it was he and Jimmy Buffet that the snotty rich kids blasted when driving off in their flashy, mummy-and-daddy-love-me-so-much vehicles. However, it would be inconsiderate to not recognize his knack for bringing talented musicians to the forefront, most notably the quietly intense singer/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Tim Reynolds, who's probably best known for his acoustic tours with Matthews and a subsequent live release, 1999's Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds: Live at Luther College. He's one of those musicians you can't look away from once he's taken the stage, so I highly recommend his solo acoustic show at Skipper's Smokehouse; Danny Goddard of Stillwood opens. Fri., Oct. 13, 8 p.m., 910 Skipper Road, Tampa, $15 advance/$18 day of, 813-971-0666, www.skipperssmokehouse.com.
