Saturday event aimed at comforting Tampa Bay's bereaved

Starting about an hour before sunset, a group of people will start to gather at Largo Central Park ahead of a stroll at dusk.

They'll likely be from a wide range of backgrounds, but they'll all have something in common. They'll all have suffered unfathomable loss, recently or otherwise, of a close human or beloved pet.

The gathering, open to the public, is called Sunset Stroll: A Time to Remember and it is organized by Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health. It serves as an opportunity for those who have lost loved ones to honor the memory of those they miss.

“Suncoast Hospice supports thousands of patients and families across the community each year and events as special as the Sunset Stroll offer a time to reflect, bring the community together and heal,” said Rafael Sciullo, president & CEO of Empath Health, in a press release.

The event will include a walk, a release of luminaries at sunset, a memory wall, on-site bereavement support for adults, children and veterans and support for those who are grieving over the loss of a pet.

The first event of its kind in the area, it will start at 4:30 at Largo Central Park, located at 101 Central Park Drv.

The event is free, but donations are encouraged.
