Service Employees International Union endorses Allison Tant for Florida Democratic Party Chair

Tant is a Tallahassee-based fundraiser who has the support of Bill Nelson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Susanna Randolph, among other prominent Democrats in the race to succeed Rod Smith as party chair.

The Tampa-based Clendenin has won the endorsements from a number of Tampa Bay area state and local legislators, and also from the Democratic Black Caucus, the Democratic Hispanic Caucus, and the Democratic Environmental Caucus.

In the battle between Tampa's Alan Clendenin and Tallahassee's Allison Tant to become the next chair of the Florida Democratic Party chair, Clendenin has been getting more endorsements from grassroots oriented groups, and Tant from some of the biggest and most important Democrats in the state.

So no doubt Tant has to be pleased with the announcement that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) — one of the strongest public employee unions inside the Democratic Party of Florida — endorsed her today.

In a brief statement, Monica Russo, President of SEIU Florida State Council said:

"Allison's dedication to grassroots advocacy for the disabled, public education, and quality healthcare are aligned with the values of 55,000 active and retired members of SEIU in Florida. In addition, she brings a vitality and tenaciousness to campaigning and fundraising that will be required in order to win real gains for Floridians both legislatively and electorally."
