Ahhhh, October.

When the temperature drops below 85, the sweaters come out, and cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg go around disguising themselves as pumpkin for the enjoyment of latte and candle enthusiasts alike.

But before we get there, September has some unfinished business with us.

Well, so much much for a cool pope. On Wednesday morning, news got out that Pope Francis met with homophobic county clerk from Kentucky Kim Davis during his visit last week. Knowing the ratio of bullshit to non-bullshit the Internet spews out (98-2, if you didn't know) we weren't apt to believe it. But then the Vatican confirmed it in multiple credible news sources. Bummer.

State CFO Jeff Atwater made every Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat Marco Rubio is vacating feel kinda dumb, when he told the Tampa Bay Times he hasn't completely ruled out a Senate run. He's better-known (and some would say better-equipped to do so) than the handful of GOP candidates in the running, most of whom probably wouldn't have stepped in if he hadn't bowed out months ago. But don't worry your pretty lil' heads; whoever wins the seat — Republican or Democrat — will be a well-dressed white guy.

Ahead of his scheduled meeting with City Council Chair Frank Reddick on the issue of a police civilian review board, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn reiterated the lack of a need to meet with groups like the NAACP and ACLU, which were apparently among those he deemed as "fringe groups" when they initially criticized his policy. We're actually really surprised he's even meeting with Reddick, and would love to be a fly on the wall during that awkward, awkward event.

A pre-trial hearing on the Hulk Hogan sex tape lawsuit will make us sad for humanity later today. Let's move on.

Indiana House Majority Leader Jud McMillin, best known to us for backing the state's controversial "religious freedom" law allowing businesses to discriminate against gays earlier this year, resigned Wednesday night after a "sexually compromising" video captured on his phone was sent to every single one of his contacts. It was later reported that the woman in the video was not his wife, even though McMillin was a stalwart "family values" advocate during his tenure. In his resignation statement, he said he will spend more time with his family. Sure.
