Sh*t happened 12/04/14: Stolen guns, NPR code enforcement and it just got worse for New Beginnings

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. And some crap happened!

Following allegations of exploiting its program members for free labor, Tampa charity New Beginnings has been dropped by Tampa Bay Rays concessions company Centerplate. The nerve, putting dozens of people out of not-work and leaving them with endless hours to find jobs for which they might actually be paid.

A gun found in a Largo High student's backpack on Tuesday was reported to have been stolen during a burglary. Thank God it was taken from a home before its rightful owner could accidentally injure him — or herself or a family member...

St. Petersburg City Councilman Jim Kennedy floated an idea for fundraising for the local arts: make it legal to drink on the street along promenades like Beach Drive and the Grand Central District in exchange for purchasing special cups designed by area artists. I can't speak to this in detail, because all I really know about Jim Kennedy is that he's my new best friend and also some sort of super-genius from the future.

And finally, speaking of city councils, the one in New Port Richey is worried that the city's enforceable codes aren't enough to combat increasing "blight" like unkempt swimming pools, boarded-up windows and inoperable vehicles left in yards. The only real problem with fixing all this stuff is that longtime New Port Richey residents would no longer know when they've arrived home, and could drive on into Hudson or the ocean.
