Here's the stuff from yesterday. Be careful with it; some of it's kinda enrage-y.
Port Tampa Bay unveiled some pretty seriously ambitious redevelopment plans for 9 million square feet of land north of the Florida Aquarium. Meanwhile, Jeff Vinik just told his people to add a waterslide and a zip-line to something downtown.
FEMA came to town to try and decide if the recent flood damage in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and other counties was bad enough to warrant federal assistance. That's gotta be a great job, deciding who got screwed so badly they need free money. "Yeah, you're screwed, but I'm just not sure you're 'federal duckets' screwed."
Connecticut's "grandfathered in" death penalty — concerning convicts who were already on death row when the state abolished capital punishment in 2012 — has been overturned by the state's highest court. "Yay," said everyone except the relatives of the criminals' victims who lobbied for and won the assurance they'd be put to death.
And finally, some Florida wildlife officials think that recent growth in the panther population — which is thought to now be up to a whopping 180 animals — warrants it being removed from the endangered species list. Seriously? 180? I have that many fucking contacts in my phone. Nopenopenope.
