Sh*t happened 9/4/15: Buckhorn vs City Council, Bucs win

Some, when faced with the uncertainty of the present, tend to retreat into a past which, while not always safer or less painful, is always known. Hey, let's do that now!

Tensions between Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and the City Council increased, as the council registered its displeasure at the mayor's leaving them out of the loop in the creation of a citizens' review board to look into alleged police misconduct by deciding to look into creating its own independent board. For local-politics obsessives, this is the equivalent of the two people you think are the world's most attractive starting to fight in Jell-O, then "accidentally" hate-sexing each other.

In other Tampa City Council news, the body approved the first stormwater services fee hike in more than a decade, upping the average rate by more than double. This is a positive, necessary and overdue development, and if the phrase "well, the Tampa neighborhood I live in doesn't flood" rose unbidden into your mind, you might want to have yourself checked for additional symptoms of SDS, or Selfish Douche Syndrome.

The Bucs won their final exhibition season game, beating the Dolphins as Jameis Winston looked on from the sidelines. A bunch of other people whose names mean nothing to me were involved somehow, too.

And finally, UT's new Innovation and Collaboration Building opened, giving budding young Tampa Bay entrepreneurs a place to play Craft Beer Pong while they fine-tune the art of burning through other people's imaginary money while refining half-baked ideas. Learn to operate a drill press, for chrissakes.
