You can't put Ron Jacobson's art in a box. Well, you can, but you'd have to find a bigger box than the one he's already painted it on. See, the self-taught artist (who's also an emergency medicine physician) produces lively, art history-inspired icons on cardboard boxes, his only point of reference being the knowledge he's gained in intellectual (not to be confused with academic) studies. Each side of these "cubes" has its own image, which can be stacked alone or in combinations with others to form myriad image sequences. You can see some new works by Jacobson in Conversations, an exhibit that kicks off at Bleu Acier this weekend with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Sat., June 24. June 24-July 23, gallery hours are by appointment only, 109 W. Columbus Drive, Tampa, 813-272-9746, www.bleuacier.com.
