Spring Hill Japanese restaurant Fuji Hibachi Express took to Facebook last Thursday to address targeted racist phone calls and behavior from locals.
“We don't sell ‘Corona Virus’ it's not right at all when you call and try to make fun of us,” the Facebook post read. “We've got told to go back to our country. Shown a middle finger in the middle of the road when we're driving with an open window. Please stop the racism!”
This is not an isolated incident, according to the restaurant, located at 14257 Powell Rd. But in news that’s somewhat of a relief, the initial Facebook post garnered a lot of local support in the form of almost 200 comments denouncing the behavior of the callers.
“I'm so sorry to read that you have been subjected to this behavior,” one commenter wrote. “Please know that they are the exception and not the rule.”
On Monday, the restaurant posted a thank you to all of its supporters on Facebook. “It really made us feel a lot better when we saw all the comments in that post,” it read. “We wanted to say thank you to every single one of them who stand up for us.”
