The ongoing saga over the fate of the “Lens” took another step toward its conclusion Thursday afternoon as the wording of the question for the August 27 referendum was approved by the St. Petersburg City Council.
“Shall an ordinance be added to the city of St. Petersburg's existing ordinance that would require the city to send an notice of termination, within five business days of the effective date of the ordinance, to Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc. to terminate the existing architect/engineering agreement between the city of St. Petersburg and Michael Maltzan Architecture which agreement was approved by city council?” will be what the voter's see.
The decision was not without some controversy. Opponents of the new pier felt that the word “Lens” should be included in the title of the question.
