In three weeks, voters (who care) in St. Petersburg will go to the polls to decide who will be their representatives of half of the seats available on the City Council, and by far the most interesting race is the Midtown seat in District 7 between Gershom Faulkner and Wengay Newton.
The seven men on the November 8 ballot engaged in a debate Tuesday night in City Hall, hosted by the League of Women Voters and moderated by Darden Rice in front of a select crowd who weren't intimidating by a rainstorm that never came.
Although he's brought the issue up before, Faulkner was determined to call out Newton repeatedly about the incumbent's high profile 7-1 votes, with Newton being that lone "1" vote against the sentiments of his colleagues.
"I believe he has some good ideas in some good place, but if you can't get four individuals, it's not doing us any good," Faulkner said, in a question related to what he thought about what to do regarding the Tampa Bay Rays situation.
