In a move that some local politicians may be happy to hear about, but many readers concerned about keeping government in check surely won't be, the St. Pete Times Tampa City Hall and political reporter, Janet Zink, is getting a promotion, leaving the Times' Ashley Avenue offices later this month to cover state government in Tallahassee.

Zink begins her new gig on December 6.  It comes after covering Tampa city government and local politics since 2003.  She actually began in the Brandon bureau in late 2002,  and later took on more political reporting responsibilities during the 2008 election.

Speaking to CL today, Zink said she's extremely excited to be moving to the capital.  "Florida government and politics are always fascinating. It's particularly cool that I'm starting there at the same time that this new administration and legislature is getting started "
