Travelers can expect a traffic change at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE), starting Thursday, Feb. 28.
Due to the Florida Department of Transportation’s Gateway Expressway project, the main entrance and traffic light to enter and exit PIE has moved near the Air Traffic Control Tower.
Here are some key impacts caused by the relocation, according to a news release from PIE: Direct access from 46th Street to Airport Parkway isn’t available, so travelers need to use the main entrance at the new traffic light; they must also turn onto 144th Avenue to access the Key Lime economy and airport employee parking lots; the Strawberry economy parking lot is only accessible from PIE’s internal roadways by taking Airport Parkway to Fairchild Drive; and parking lot shuttles could experience longer wait and route times to and from the terminal.
As part of the ongoing construction, the ground transportation lot at PIE closed two weeks ago and will reopen after 30 to 60 days. The short-term parking lot, which closed last week, will remain inaccessible for six months.
