Sustainable Floridians Master Volunteer Program - Thursday, March 17

The course requires 30 volunteer hours are needed to complete certification and 30 hours every year to keep that certification active.

Each week participants will meet for a half-day session to learn about:

  • energy conservation

  • local foods

  • land use issues

  • water conservation

  • community leadership

This orientation will take place Thursday March 17, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Weedon Auditorium (1800 Weedon Island Dr., St. Pete). Courses will be held at Weedon Island Preserve: April 7th - May 19th and at the Pinellas County Extension: September 15th - October 27th.

Open orientation for the Sustainable Floridians program, a 7-week certification course hosted by the Pinellas County Extension and modeled on the successful Florida Master Gardener Program, will take place Thursday, March 17th.

It's goal is to teach participants about utilizing sustainability in their everyday lives. Participants will explore values, attitudes and sustainable actions through discussion and hands-on learning.

Program participants will attend a seven week course that combines group discussions, weekly action exercises and resource materials for an interactive and informative program. They will also be provided with course materials, books, energy conservation devices for the home, and other products that relate to sustainable living. All participants will receive free registration, materials, lunch, energy kits and rain barrels (a $500+ value).
